Barn Rübenau

A former barn in the Ore Mountains is reimagined as a living space while preserving the generosity of its original open volume. New domestic functions are arranged around the existing structure through a self-build envelope inspired by the Nebraska straw-bale technique. The straw once stored inside the barn becomes the main element of the refurbishment, reused as a natural insulation material and directly coated with lime plaster.
